Doris Dickson Elementary

Minimum Day & Literature Day Parade tomorrow Oct. 31st

Posted Date: 10/31/25 (5:44 PM)

Get ready for another fun event — the Dickson Literature Parade! 🎉 It is also a special MINIMUM DAY with Dismissal at 11:20 a.m. (TK/K at 11:10 a.m.)

This special event is designed to promote a love of reading and literacy in a fun, creative way.

Students are encouraged to dress as a character from a book and bring that book with them to carry during the parade. Costumes should be fun, creative, and school-appropriate, which means:

  • Characters must come from a book your child can bring to school.

  • No scary, bloody, gory, or violent themes or props.

  • Costumes should be suitable for our younger students to enjoy.

  • Students should wear regular clothes underneath if their costume might be distracting during class time.

🔒 Safety Reminder:
For everyone’s safety, no full-face masks, toy weapons, or accessories are allowed. Students must be able to move safely and see clearly at all times.

Families are invited to join us on the blacktop to cheer on our students as they proudly parade in their Literature Day costumes from 8:00–8:30 a.m. (Time is an estimate)

🔹 Viewing Area: Families should enter through the single black gate next to the upper-grade building near the cafeteria.

Adult viewers will wait on the blacktop outside the basketball court, as students will be walking around the edge of the basketball court during the parade.

🔹 Animals/Pets: For safety reasons, no animals or pets are allowed on campus at any time. Service animals must be pre-cleared through administration with proof of certification.

🔹 Campus Access: While adults are welcome to view the parade, non-Dickson students (siblings, cousins, friends, etc.) are not permitted on campus per Risk Management guidelines.

If you have any questions or special circumstances, please reach out directly to Principal McCain.

Let’s make this a joyful celebration of reading, creativity, and school spirit! We can’t wait to see our Dickson Stars bring their favorite book characters to life in a fun, positive, and safe way. 📖🌟
